Kirk Fell. Unfortunately there is no way onto Kirk Fell from within the village. There is a permissive path which starts just as you go out of the village onto the Whinlatter Pass, but this is quite a scramble. You could drive further along the Pass and then attempt a mega walk through the forest past Spout Force. The only other way up is to drive round to the other side via Embleton and then face a long slog to the summit. The summit actually lays well back from what you can see here. The only reason I can think of for taking the trouble is to be able to look down and say "I can see our cottage from here" if that's what makes your day!
